Hannah Kernott: Championing diversity and equality

Hannah Kernott, Event Producer, reflects on her journey in the events field and the challenges she’s overcome. From seeking mentorship to embracing continuous learning, Hannah’s resilience and determination have been instrumental in her success.

Reflecting on your journey, how have you overcome challenges as a woman in events?

“I joined the events industry at 21 and I am very grateful for my career journey to date. I’ve been surrounded by influential men and women whom I’ve been able to lean on for advice and guidance throughout. I’ve learned that asking for help is not a sign of weakness!” 

Can you offer advice to other women aspiring to make a mark in event planning?

“One thing that has helped in my career is having the confidence to ask questions to further my knowledge and understanding. I’ve learnt that there is no weakness in taking a step back from the quick-fire tasks and asking “Is there a better way to do this?”, “Have we interpreted this correctly?” More often than not, if you’re thinking it, someone else is too.”

Can you share a memorable success story or project that highlights your expertise in events?

“For IWD 2023, I led a team to deliver a recruitment event for the Royal Navy. Specifically highlighting the equal career opportunities for men and women. The recruitment event was the first celebration of women in the Royal Navy and aired on IWD last year.

“The wave of positive feedback from the audience was incredible. From female Commanders to Gunners and Royal Marines Band Service personnel – the show captured the success stories of women from across the force, and empowered those who were perhaps on the fence, to apply for the role of their dreams.”

Gabrielle Manson: Leading with inclusivity

Gabrielle Manson, Account Manager, embodies the spirit of inclusivity and empowerment. She shares her approach to building diverse teams, emphasising the importance of recognising and advocating for each team member’s strengths. Gabrielle’s commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture sets a powerful example for aspiring female leaders.

As a female leader, how do you approach building or leading diverse, inclusive teams?

“I focus on supporting everyone in my team by advocating for their strengths when delivering projects for our RAF clients.” 

Can you share a memorable success story or project that highlights your expertise in events?

“My favourite project to work on was by far the King’s Coronation. Onsite my team and I coordinated all of the special guests into Westminster Abbey for the morning ceremony (in the pouring rain)! The experience was a great privilege.” 

International Women’s Day is about celebrating achievements and advocating for equality. What advice do you have for women looking to make a mark in events?

“Every opinion matters – inspire inclusion!”

Vicki Galloway-Place: Inspiring leadership

Vicki Galloway-Place, Senior Events Producer, draws inspiration from influential women such as Malala Yousafzai, Michelle Obama, and Queen Elizabeth II. Her admiration for their leadership qualities reflects her commitment to fostering workplace inclusivity and empowerment.

Who is a woman that inspires you, and why?

“I am inspired by women every day! Specifically, I would highlight Malala Yousafzai, Michelle Obama and the ultimate feminist Queen Elizabeth II. 

“Malala for standing up for her rights as a female in the face of oppression, and not being intimidated to quieten her voice. Michelle Obama – a powerful woman, intelligent, independent, eloquent, and Queen Elizabeth for her stoic approach to leadership. Often the only female leader in a room yet never publicly wavering in her respect, professionalism and placing people first.” 

What advice would you give to young women starting their careers?

“Find your voice, don’t be afraid to use it and please, please never lose it… often your voice will be the thoughts of others too scared to speak up.  If someone is disrespectful or speaking badly of you it usually comes from their issues, not yours.” 

International Women’s Day is about celebrating achievements and advocating for equality. What advice do you have for women looking to make a mark in events?

“You have just as much right to be there as anyone else.  Don’t let anyone tell you directness is aggressive.  Learn your craft and work hard, but let your work speak for itself. When you do speak, speak up and own your words. Find your mentor and learn from them.” 

As a female leader, how do you approach building or leading diverse, inclusive teams?

“Everyone is equal! From the project lead to the person sweeping the floor (which might also be the project lead!) Without everyone doing their part, your project or event would not happen. Respect, smile and acknowledgement go a long way! Celebrate and support other women.  Don’t be the one bringing them down.”

Amy Farre: Driving impactful outcomes

Amy Farre, Digital Marketing Manager, shares her experience of achieving record-breaking registrations for RAF World events. Her innovative strategies and collaborative approach highlight the power of teamwork in event marketing.

Can you share a memorable success story or project that you’ve worked on in your career that highlights your expertise in the events industry?

“One of my career highlights since joining Identity seven months ago was hitting a record-breaking number of registrations for RAF World: Your Success; Our Mission. Since I began working with the team, RAF World registrations have increased by 31%. The last three virtual events of RAF World have resulted in a total of 528 EOIs for the Royal Air Force. It has been a great experience to work with such an incredible team of professionals who produce such high-quality virtual events. I’m super excited to continue collaborating with my team and explore new ways to market our upcoming virtual events across the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force accounts.”

International Women’s Day is about celebrating achievements and advocating for gender equality. What advice do you have for aspiring women looking to make a mark in the events industry?

“For aspiring women in the events industry, remember that International Women’s Day is not just about celebrating achievements, but also advocating for gender equality. Don’t shy away from standing out for all the right reasons. Whether it’s making people laugh and smile, appreciating everyone’s contributions to a project, or simply being kind in the workplace, these actions never go unnoticed. In a high-pressure environment like event management, kindness can be a powerful tool for building strong teams and creating a supportive atmosphere. Remember that everyone, regardless of gender, faces their own challenges and obstacles. By embracing kindness and empathy, you can not only build a positive personal brand but also contribute to creating a more inclusive industry for all.”

Lindsay Neyjahr: Balancing commitments with compassion

“A highlight has to be the King’s Coronation….what an honour to be trusted to deliver such a prestigious event. A proud moment for sure.” 

What advice would you give to young women starting their careers?

“Being a woman and having a young family whilst pursuing a career in the events industry has taught me three things. It’s about…

Hannah Green: Nurturing wellbeing and support

HR Coordinator, Hannah Green plays a pivotal role in promoting employee wellbeing and support within Identity Global. With a focus on holistic wellness, Hannah shares her passion for creating a positive work environment that prioritises mental health and self-care.

Looking ahead, what positive changes would you like to see for women in events?

“I’d like to see better family leave entitlements across the industry, not just for women but for all parents. The events industry means people are working very long hours during peak times, so ensuring people have time for their families is important!” 

How did your perspective as a woman shape the planning and execution of a particular event?

“When talking about wellbeing, I tend to have particular ideas towards wellbeing for women. Anything from sanitary products in onsite wellbeing kits, understanding time off with menstrual problems, or just understanding the challenges women face in the workplace and day-to-day life is helpful when looking at wellbeing.” 

Can you share a memorable success story or project that highlights your expertise in events?

“I really enjoy focusing on wellbeing knowing that the events industry is very stressful. It’s important to me that we have good company benefits to support people in their health and wellbeing outside of work, but also focusing on wellbeing internally. 

“We have had several projects to help with this, and most importantly we have introduced Mental Health First Aiders internally who are there to signpost when needed.”

Joanne Dowling: Cornerstone contribution to the Coronation

As our Graphic Production Manager / Producer, Joanne’s expertise shines through her meticulous attention to detail. She recalls a memorable success story from her career—the King’s Coronation, where her signage and wayfinding efforts received praise from the client.

Can you share a memorable success story or project that highlights your expertise in events?

“A memorable project for me was working as the Signage & Wayfinding lead for the Coronation. I received a call from the client as she walked through St James’s Park, expressing how great the signage was.”
