Helen Wright, Strategy Director of Major Projects at Identity, recently appeared on BBC’s The Climate Question to discuss her work delivering two of the world’s most significant climate conferences: COP26 and COP28.
In the interview, Helen offered a behind the scenes look at the complexity and responsibility of staging the United Nations’ largest annual gathering – one that brings together tens of thousands of attendees including Heads of State, government delegates, UN representatives, civil society leaders, business figures, academics, and international celebrities, all united in the fight against climate change.
Drawing on her experience working with Identity on both summits, Helen explained how the agency approaches projects of unprecedented scale and significance, navigating the logistical and operational challenges required to create an environment that supports meaningful climate action.
“When people think of a COP summit, they understandably focus on the speeches, the commitments and the headlines. But behind every moment is a huge amount of strategic thinking and operational planning. From shaping the narrative and defining the experience, to managing complex global stakeholders, the success of any COP depends on the foundations that are set long before delegates arrive,” she said.
“It was a pleasure to join BBC’s The Climate Question to discuss what it really takes to deliver these world-defining events – and how the strategic planning that we do in collaboration with the organisers sets the conditions for success.”
